FAQs

Facials

  • Carving out time each month to experience regular facials can help support the health of your skin. Each time you visit they will be uniquely tailored to address your individual skin concerns and overall well being. A facial every 4-6 weeks will help to support your skin health by encouraging the skin’s natural renewal process.

  • If it is your first visit to The Skin & Wellness Room I created The Holistic Facial Ritual for first time facial guests. This consists of a 30 minute Discovery Consultation and 60 minute Holistic Facial Ritual.

The Discovery Consultation is an integral part to creating a bespoke experience for your unique skin concerns and wellbeing and n opportunity for you to ask me any questions you may have.

  • I would recommend to come with minimal or no makeup on if you feel comfortable to do so. This allows for more time to focus on skin analysis and creating a bespoke facial that will target your key concerns and needs. It is best not to use any actives or exfoliation products prior to receiving your facial as sometimes you skin may experience some sensitivity.

  • Wear something you feel comfortable in. As I need to have access to your neck, shoulders and décolleté you will need to remove your top, and if wearing a bra your straps will be placed down and under your arms. You may leave your trousers or skirt on and shoes will be removed prior to beginning your facial.

You may want to leave your jewellery at home. Certain pieces of jewellery will need to be removed and placed in your bag before your treatment commences.

  • Each facial will be individually based on your needs and concerns. No two facials will ever be identical due the nature of how our skin needs and concerns change. The basic outline of the treatment will include a skin consultation and skin analysis, a thorough cleanse of the skin will begin the treatment. Thereafter, a variety of treatment modalities will be used. A combination of hands on massage techniques, product application and non-invasive skin therapies will be included to treat the skin concerns and needs identified in your consultation.

  • Your skin can experience many hormonal changes through pregnancy. A facial treatment can address these concerns. You may experience skin sensitivity, hormonal skin breakouts or Melasma (excess melanin production causing noticeable darker patches on the skin) a facial can help address these concerns.

The facial will always be adapted to use suitable products and treatments modalities while pregnant.

  • Personalised home care and aftercare solutions will always be discussed after the facial treatment so you can maintain the results in between your appointments.

  • If it is your first visit to The Skin & Wellness Room I recommend booking in for one of the treatment time frames; 30, 60 or 90 minutes.

A full consultation will be conducted to determine which massage techniques will be used to target your specific concerns.

I dedicate your treatment time on the areas you need it most, rather than a set routine. Your treatment may include; deep tissue techniques, Swedish massage, lymphatic drainage, stretching, acupressure therapy and reflex points.

  • Avoid having a heavy meal 90 minutes prior to your treatment. Enjoy a light meal instead. Avoid alcohol prior to your treatment and after your treatment (24-48 hours). You may wish to have a shower and to exfoliate at home prior to your appointment.

  • If your massage requires you to remove your clothes down to your undergarments, you will be modestly draped with towels and additional coverings if needed. The only areas exposed at any one time will be the area that will be massaged. You do not need to expose yourself in any way that you are uncomfortable with.

  • Try to take a slower pace after your treatment.

Drink plenty of water (1-2 litres) of water throughout the day to keep your tissues hydrated and to help flush toxins through the system.

An Epsom salt bath is recommended to soothe and relax muscles and enhance the benefits of the massage. It will help to alleviate any stiffness you may feel the next day.

Avoid alcohol consumption for 24-48 hours after your massage.

Waxing

  • Avoid moisturising the area prior to your appointment.

You can exfoliate before your appointment to remove any surface flaky skin for a more efficient wax.

You need to ensure you have at least ¼ inch of hair growth so the wax can grip the hair.

If it is your first time waxing, I recommend you refrain from shaving for at least 2 weeks before your appointment.

  • Generally, you should be hair free for 7-14 days, depending on where in the hair cycle the hair is when it was removed. You are advised to return within 4-6 weeks to achieve the best results. You may need to come back sooner for facial hair growth approximately 3-4 weeks after hair removal.

  • Waxing will make the hair finer with regular waxing treatments but it is not a permanent hair removal method.

  • Exfoliate 24 hours before waxing and again 2-3 days after so that the hairs can grow freely. Continue to exfoliate the body areas at least once a week. Moisturise on a daily basis.

  • You may experience red and/or blotchy skin after waxing. This is because it is a heat treatment and you are causing micro trauma to the hair follicle. This normally lasts for around 2 hours but may last up to 24 hours.

  • No hot baths or showers for 24 hours

No sun beds or sun exposure for at least 24-48 hours

Wear loose clothing after the treatment

Do not apply fake tan for 24-48 hours after waxing

Avoid swimming for 24-48 hours after waxing

Try and avoid exercise for 24 hours

Do not scratch or touch the area with unwashed hands.

Avoid applying deodorant, anything perfumed or make-up to the waxed area for 24 hours
